Last homework problem
It actually was pretty easy. Undirected… Not even some crazy optimal weight edge greedy algo. This problem should have been given in last weeks hw, basic graph theroy. I dont want to post my solution online since the hw is still out, but I made a modified DFS algo. Anyway, I got my dinner! Time to relax a bit now. -Sent from my iPhone

Last homework problem before I finish tonight
Consider a graph G with n vertices where each vertex has a unique label 1 … n. The minimum label vertex reachable from a vertex v is called min(v). Design an O(e + n) algorithm that finds min(v) for all vertices in the graph. Its an undirected graph… by the way. And weights on edges don’t matter… since it only needs to be reachable. Okay, I’m going to stop thinking and...

“Listen, the problem with bedbugs is they only eat people, so you can’t...”
– How to get rid of your bedbugs. - I guess New York has a huge problem with bed bugs, but this Whale Biologist has the answer. I’d believe him and I’m a scientist, with a degree in science!

I have to get out of here
I feel like I have so much to do and no time to do it. I’m chipping away, but its just so much work. I need to get out of my apartment, I can’t study here right now. So far I installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my old desktop, pulled off some old movies. I watched an episode of Big Bang Theory. I read the same problem three times… and wrote down a few lines in my scratch paper. Posted...

Secret Button Sequence Bypasses iPhone Security The quick method to circumvent an iPhone’s passcode-protected lock screen: tap the “Emergency call button,” then four pound signs, [then dial] and immediately hit the Lock button. That simple procedure gives a snoop full access to the Phone app on the iPhone, which contains the address book, voicemail and call history. from...

Renting in Los Angeles
Since I started grad school at UCLA, I moved to West LA. At first it was great! I thought, new restaurants, places to hang out, and people to meet (This happened through school, not the area). But soon it turned out not to be that great. First the people here are dicks. Everyone in LA looks out for themselves. You learn this very quickly driving around. You have to be aggressive and don’t...

The death of optical drives?
In 1998, Apple introduced the iMac which had no floppy drive. In February 2003, Dell, Inc. announced that they would no longer include floppy drives. Soon the rest followed… now the floppy is a distant memory that kids today have to look up on Wikipedia. Now the MacBook Air has no user-replaceable parts and no optical drive. But users can either use a separately-available external USB...

I just found a new show called Joe Genius! Its pretty awesome… the latest episode was on Gravity. It is a law, so obey it! They have a new episode every Thursday. Each week Joe Genius will turn the spotlight on some of the best science videos online, from dry ice bombs to robot musicians, and explain why they work…or more often than not, why they don’t.

Java Deprecation in Mac OS X
From the Mac OS X Reference Library: As of the release of Java for Mac OS X 10.6 Update 3, the Java runtime ported by Apple and that ships with Mac OS X is deprecated. Developers should not rely on the Apple-supplied Java runtime being present in future versions of Mac OS X. The Java runtime shipping in Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard, and Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard, will continue to be supported and...

Advance Security Class - Course Project
For my graduate level computer security class, I’m doing a project on: DoS Attacks in Named-Data Network (NDN) We plan to identify some of the potential DoS attacks on the current NDN design. In addition, we plan to come up with effective defense mechanisms against them. Aside with theoretical analysis, we plan to use the CCN API to develop simulations to evaluate our approach. Professor...

Budget
Its the 3 week of school and everything has settled into place (financially speaking), so I could make a good estimate on my budget. I’m not the perfect budgeteer… but I do have a awesome understanding of math and I know you shouldn’t spend more than you make (I am in grad school after all ;) ) So… Take my estimated monthly income: Pay Check Estimated monthly expenses:...

From /. - Why You See 'Free Public WiFi' In So... →
It took this long for people to notice? This has been around forever… and you are JUST NOW curious and wanted to figure this out. It was covered on Security Now like 3 years ago! Its even an Ad-Hoc network. This just shows how the general public doesn’t care about security… at all. It might as well be call, “Connect your computer to mine, you dumb Windows user”.

Google TV and Wireless Keyboards
It seems like the new Google TV relies heavily on the use of the Wireless Keyboard. If I remember correctly… are wireless keyboard easy to capture keystrokes from? I think its called WarTyping. I believe the good people over at http://www.remote-exploit.org/ even have a video showing how. Now I have no problem with wireless mouse, since its just up/down and click events… and the...
